Dr. Anthony Stephen Fauci, born on December 24, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, is a distinguished American physician-scientist and immunologist renowned for his leadership in public health. Serving as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 1984 to 2022, and as the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden from 2021 to 2022, Fauci has played a crucial role in the U.S.'s response to numerous infectious diseases. His tenure at NIAID marked significant advances in research, particularly in HIV/AIDS, where his work contributed to the development of key therapies and improved understanding of immunodeficiency diseases.

Fauci's education began at the College of the Holy Cross, culminating with a Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University. He joined the National Institutes of Health as a clinical associate and later became the head of the Laboratory of Immunoregulation. Fauci was a pivotal figure during the AIDS crisis and more recently, he was a central figure in the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic. His guidance during this period was both lauded and critiqued amid a highly politicized environment.
